What Is the Difference Between a Vinyl Cutter & a Vinyl Plotter?

Whether printing a banner for a storefront or printing a billboard for advertising with a highway, you require a vinyl plotter. However, on jobs that need more in-depth cut as opposed to a range of printed colors, a vinyl cutting plotter, or vinyl cutter, is required. While all vinyl cutters are plotters, not all of the plotters are cutters and these cutters feature several differences.

The Knife

The significant hardware gap between a vinyl cutter and a vinyl plotter is common in routine vinyl plotters. This allows the machine to cut a routine as opposed to simply printing a design over the top of the vinyl. The result is a vinyl print that perfectly fits the side of a from or into strangely shaped shop windows. This knife sitting on bearings in the exact same manner, can be cut with other scripts, and cut elaborate shapes, like calligraphy along with other scripts.

The Print

Because a vinyl cutter cuts instead of printing, the vinyl is either published before it is placed in the plastic or retains its initial routine before printing. This means that the vinyl paper can be cut on the elaborate cut than the color. This is notable in car decals that often use one color and elaborate shape.

Overlay

One way designers utilize vinyl cutters to achieve a colorful and striking design by overlaying many distinctive sheets of vinyl. Each sheet has been cut into a single shape. The result is a colorful image that contains more than one sheet of vinyl.

Use

Vinyl cutters along with other vinyl plotters have been used for various purposes since they feature different tools. Since printing on a single sheet is more affordable and time intensive than creating an overlay picture, many billboards utilize vinyl plotters. Jobs that need mono-color or translucent vinyl, such as window tinting or vinyl sheeting for cabinets, utilize vinyl cutters.
